Reggae Boyz draw Guatemala in preliminary World Cup qualifying group
Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz have been drawn alongside Guatemala in Group E of the Concacaf World Cup play-offs.
At Thursday’s preliminary draw held in Zurich, Switzerland, it was revealed that Jamaica will start their FIFA World Cup 2026 journey at the second round, starting in June, and will face Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Dominica and the winner of a playoff between the British Virgin Islands and the US Virgin Islands.
There will be two home and away play-offs to decide two qualifiers for the second round with the Turks and Caicos Islands and Anguilla facing off in the other, both to be played in March.
The second round will run between June 2024 and June 2025 where 30 countries will vie for spots in the final round which will be played between September and November 2025 for five spots in the World Cup that will be hosted by Concacaf teams Mexico, USA and Canada. There will be three direct qualification spots and two via play-offs.
Group A- Honduras, Antigua/Barbuda, Cuba, Bermuda, Cayman Islands
Group B- Costa Rica, Trinidad and Tobago, St Kitts/Nevis, Grenada, Bahamas
Group C- Haiti, Curacao, St Lucia, Barbados, Aruba
Group D-Panama, Nicaragua, Guyana, Montserrat, Belize
Group E- Jamaica, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, Dominica, winner playoff 2 BVI vs USVI
Group F- El Salvador, Suriname, Puerto Rico, St Vincent, winner play-off 1 Turks vs Anguilla
