Discover downtown through dance
Dancing Rebel hosts dance competition at Artwalk, Water Lane
The Artwalk kicks off on Sunday, January 28 under the theme of ‘Dance Challenge’, stepping boldly into the new year with the hottest new dance moves by popular Jamaican dancer and influencer Dancing Rebel, well known for her Tik Tok dance challenges.
The Artwalk opens at 11:00 am with a free walking tour to the Simon Bolivar Cultural Centre in Parade, where guests will tour the exhibits and enjoy a free Latin dance class.
During the day there will be performances from DanceWORKS (Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts), the Denham Town Dance Academy, and guests can also enjoy music all day by Merritone Disco, 9 Mile Soundsystem, and DJ Fenix, who will host the day’s activities.
Red Stripe Flavours is back on board for a second year as the main sponsor of the growing Kingston Creative Artwalk Festival.
In addition to the dynamic line-up, other activities include shopping for arts and crafts at the artisan market, domino competitions, paint and sip events, and guided tours throughout the day which can be booked on the new Kulcha Connect app. These tours will focus on the murals on Water Lane to the National Gallery of Jamaica on Orange Street, where guests can enjoy a private tour of the ‘Faces of Us’ exhibition.
“This partnership allows people to discover downtown and fall in love with their city all over again,” said Andrea Dempster Chung, executive director of Kingston Creative. “Throughout the year, we will take guests on free walking and bus tours to 12 of the best hidden cultural treasures in downtown, and we hope that everyone will come out on the last Sunday of each month to take this journey with us.”
The highlight of Artwalk Sunday is the live Dance Challenge in Church Street, an opportunity for individual dancers and dance crews to win $30,000 in a dancehall challenge hosted by dancing sensation Rebel, which will be followed by a performance from the star herself
