Allan Daley hailed as scholar, disciplinarian with great sense of humour
Allan Henry Daley was remembered as a scholar, disciplinarian, and strong-willed man at a thanksgiving service for his life on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Half-Way-Tree Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Daley, who was born in Allman Town, Kingston, on June 12, 1937, was known to his family and countless friends as Sir D or Mr Dandy .
He was the sixth of 11 children to Iris Edwards and Albert Daley.
A Kingston College old boy, Daley was described as a knowledgeable individual who could hold his own in any conversation.
“Catch him at any roadside gathering or at the dinner table and it’s on — from history to politics and current affairs, he was a scholar,“ congregants at the thanksgiving service were told.
“His passions extended beyond those topics to animals, more specifically horses, as he had a lifelong relationship with horse racing.
“He was known for his sartorial elegance; always a dapper dresser.”
He abhorred pettiness, and while he was a stickler for discipline, he was known for his great sense of humour.
Strong-willed and determined till the end Daley is survived by his seven children, 26 grandchildren, 17 great -grandchildren, three siblings — Errol, Sonia, and Yvonne
— and countless other relatives
