Cavalier takes over lead in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Cavalier SC have taken over the lead in the points standings in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League after edging 10-man Harbour View 1-0 in their opening second round game played at the Anthony Spaulding Complex on Wednesday.
Cavalier SC’s ninth win and sixth in a row took them to 30 points, one more than defending champions Mt Pleasant FA. who were held to a 1-1 draw by third placed Portmore United with Tivoli Gardens and Arnett Gardens tied on 27 points.
Jerome McCleary scored Cavalier’s lone goal in the 74th minute and Harbour View were reduced to 10 players in the 78th minute when Okeemo Jones was shown his second yellow card of the game.
At Ferdie Neita Park, a penalty in time added at the end of the second half saw 10-man Mt Pleasant salvage a point against Portmore United who led from the 15th minute through Stephen Young.
Daniel Green stepped up to score Mt Pleasant’s penalty.
Mt Pleasant was reduced to 10 players after goalkeeper Shaquan Davis was sent off in the 73rd minute after he handled the ball outside the 18-yard box.
Tivoli Gardens rebounded from their loss to Montego Bay United with a 1-0 win over Waterhouse, thanks to Odean Pennycooke’s 14th minute goal.
Montego Bay United had a 3-0 win over last placed Lime Hall Academy at Wespow Park as Owayne Gordon celebrated his return to the league since 2018 when he scored the opening goal in the 19th minute.
Odane Nish made it 2-0 in the 32nd minute before Brian Brown made up for two glaring misses with a third in the 82nd minute.
Humble Lion snapped a three-game losing skid with a 1-0 win over Treasure Beach at STETHS with James Thomas getting the winner in the 83rd minute.
