Herbert Morrison basketballers in must-win clash with St James
MONTEGO BAY, St James — Former national champions Herbert Morrison Technical must win Friday’s Game Two of their best-of-three Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association rural area boys’ Under-19 basketball semi-finals after losing Wednesday’s Game One 47-56 to St James High at Montego Bay Cricket Club.
St James High, who were led by a game-high 21 points from Keith Smith, were able to stifle the usually fluent Herbert Morrison offence and could end the series today with a similar result. Victory would move them into the final against the winner of the series between Manchester High and Glenmuir High.
The first game in the other semi-final was not played, however and the organisers will decide whether it will be rescheduled. Both Manchester and Glenmuir set to meet today as well.
After being tied 14-all at the end of the first quarter on Wednesday, St James took the lead 27-24 at half-time, and despite a good start by Herbert Morrison in the third quarter, St James increased their lead to 43-37 going into the fourth quarter.
Smith also had 20 rebounds and five steals for St James High, while Jodel Williams scored 14 points and Reiki Brown tallied 13 points and had seven steals.
Joshua Ferguson led Herbert Morrison Technical with 13 points, Nathan Thompson scored 10 points, while Brandon Brown and Trevaughn Bernard scored six points each.
