WATCH: JUTC bus damaged while avoiding collision with car on Mandela Highway
KINGSTON, Jamaica— A Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) bus was extensively damaged Thursday morning when the driver of the vehicle swerved off the road in an attempt to avoid colliding with a motor car on the Mandela Highway.
Passengers on the state-owned bus reportedly escaped serious injuries following the incident.
Reports are that about 9am, the bus, which runs the Spanish Town to Cross Road route, was travelling towards Kingston when a car travelling in the same direction cut across the path of the bus causing the driver to swerve off road.
“The car man come and… swing over to him (the JUTC bus driver) and him a save the car man and after him try fi save the car man and him kick weh himself suh, and a suh the bus get out of control,” one passenger said.
“And when the car man look and see say the bus a turn over fi kill all a we the car man take way himself,” the passenger continued.
The bus reportedly hit several traffic signs when it took evasive maneuvers resulting in damage to the windscreen and the front of the bus.
