Delly Ranx gives props to rhythm juggling
Veteran dancehall artiste Delly Ranx says the return of rhythm juggling is welcomed.
The deejay, who is known for producing a string of hit rhythms over the years, says he never stopped putting out rhythm projects.
“Mi never stop do dat. Mi always a put out juggling, cause mi believe inna dat. You want to keep the dancehall going? You want to keep people happy and to enjoy themselves in the party? It’s a good move, I am glad more producers are getting back into putting out juggling,” Delly Ranx disclosed in an interview with the Jamaica Observer backstage at Strictly 2K on Saturday night.
Delly Ranx’s better-known rhythm projects include Red Bull and Hennessy rhythm, Ghetto Whiskey rhythm, and Cotton Swan rhythm.
His hits as a producer include Ganja Breed by Sean Paul and Chico, Family by Popcaan, Weh Dem Feel Like by Vybz Kartel, Don’t Give a Damn by Wayne Wonder, and Things a Come Up by Buju Banton.
Delly Ranx’s 2006 production Red Bull and Hennessy rhythm spawned the Billboard-charting hit Weh Dem a Do by Mavado and Red Bull and Guinness by Delly featuring Chino.
While coming up in the business, Delly Ranx faced many obstacles, including disrespect by some producers.
“As a youth coming up in the business and trying to get a break dem used to disrespect mi. Sometimes mi voice pon dem rhythm and dem nuh put out mi songs. And the Lord helped me and blessed me to become a successful producer and recording artiste. So mi say, mi nah go mek no more youth face what me faced as a youth. Mi nah mek dem go through weh me go through. So mi start mi label to help young artistes,” Delly Ranx disclosed.
His Pure Music Productions was birthed more than 15 years ago. The label’s most recent project is the Cambio rhythm, while his most recent single Real Friends features Bugle.
For 2024 Delly Ranx, who says he is back to continue the work locally, plans to release a new album while reconnecting with fans.
“I have a new album coming out, it’s called Imperfectly Perfect. So far I have Sizzla, Chico, Spragga Benz, Mykal Rose, and Pressure Buss Pipe on it,” he stated.
Known for the hits Headache, Work Roun Dem, and Weh Di Time with Voicemail, Delly says at this stage of his career he isn’t concerned about getting a hit song.
“I’m just trying to stay relevant; mi nah compete with anyone. From the 90s ’til now I have never stopped touring. Mi a stay inna my lane and keep current,” Delly Ranx shared.
Asked if there was any of the current crop of trending acts who spurred his interest, Delly Ranx said: “Mi like Skeng, mi listen to him, because him entertain mi. Mi like Chronic Law too, mi like all a dem.”
