Culture minister salutes S Hotel for promoting Jamaica’s culture
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Culture Minister Olivia “Babsy” Grange is lauding hotelier Chris Issa and the S Hotel for resolutely promoting Jamaican culture.
According to a release from S Hotel, an alluring exhibit of a gigantic pair of boots by Jamaican sculptor Scheed Cole has recently been mounted at its property, sited at the Jimmy Cliff Boulevard in Montego Bay, St James, boosting the experience for local and international guests at the facility.
“I laud Chris Issa and S Hotel for their unswerving efforts in highlighting the Jamaican culture. I am impressed by their efforts to successfully offer locals and internationals a taste of the Jamaican culture. This augurs well for the promotion of the nation’s tradition,” Grange was attributed as saying in a release.
The release added that the massive 10-feet Jamaican-inspired boots can easily be transformed into cozy lounge beds.
“The massive boots, adorned in the black, red, gold and green Jamaican colours, provides an awe-inspiring viewing in the parking lot area of the Jamaican-owned managed and staffed resort in the tourism resort city of Montego Bay,” the release from S Hotel noted.
It further noted: “The exhibit, which is propped up with the slogan ‘Big Up You Self’, is an extension of the hotel’s consistent promotion of the local culture”.
The massive Jamaican inspired boots follow S Hotel’s recent establishment of Club S, a new reggae and dancehall themed Jamaican nightclub located on the iconic Jimmy Cliff Boulevard, formerly called the Hip Strip.
Club S embodies the character, colour, and originality of Jamaica, drawing inspiration from the iconic ‘Passa Passa’ weekly dance in Kingston and various reggae festivals, including the world-renowned Reggae Sumfest.
“The unique features of the club, such as the incorporation of Passa Passa and Reggae Sumfest themes, the Jamaican inner-city bar, a jerk-chicken man, a corner shop and bar, artistic depictions and sculptures of a ‘rude bwoy’, a Zion church, a traditional clothes line, rustic theming, olden days street lamps, and the presence of two dogs and chickens lounging under the jerk-chicken man’s pan, all contribute to an immersive and authentic experience,” the S Hotel release stated.
In the prestigious Condé Nast Readers’ Choice Awards for 2023, readers ranked S Hotel Jamaica as the number one hotel in the Caribbean and Central America with an impressive score of 99.33.
S Hotel Jamaica was also named Jamaica’s Leading Hotel at the World Travel Awards Caribbean.
