All-Jamaican cast for Christmas Comedy Cook-Up
The Christmas Comedy Cook-Up, a staple of the Yuletide season, celebrates its 20th anniversary on December 26 at the Jamaica Pegasus’ Grand Ballroom.
For the first time since it was held in 2004, the laugh fest fields an all-Jamaican cast.
Ity and Fancy Cat, Owen “Blakka” Ellis, Christopher “Johnny” Daley, Dufton Shepherd, Dr Michael Abrahams, Leighton Smith, Kathy “Tan Deh Deh” Grant, and Pretty Boy Floyd are the comics on the Boxing Day bill.
Aston Robot Ellis will entertain guests with steel pan interpretations of popular songs.
Ian “Ity” Ellis, producer of Christmas Comedy Cook-Up, spoke recently about reaching a major landmark.
“We’re humbled and incredibly excited to reach this significant 20-year milestone. It’s been an amazing journey and we wanted to make this year’s event truly special by showcasing the outstanding comedic talent that Brand Jamaica has fostered over the years,” he said.
Presented in a family-friendly format, performers at Christmas Comedy Cook-Up usually give humorous spins on current affairs and the year’s newsmakers.
After a two-year break due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, it returned in a live setting in 2022.
Over the years, Christmas Comedy Cook-Up has featured overseas acts such as California-based Jamaican Miranda Melhado, Ghanaian-Canadian Trixx, and Haitian-American Wil Sylvince.
