Dear Prime Minister…
Dear Editor,
Prime Minister Andrew Holness, I guess you will never tire of regurgitating “the lowest unemployment rate ever!”
And I hope I will never have to keep pointing out to you that whereas you keep implying that the ostensible shortage of labour is largely due to many taking the deliberate decision that “we can’t be bothered with legitimately earning a salary”, there are many of us — specifically the disabled — that the labour market just will not accommodate despite all the clever political woo-woo-wooing that seems to imply otherwise.
Prime Minister, I and others have already sent you reams of e-mail, all of which you have chosen to simply ignore, highlighting this “oversight”, but unless someone with influence takes this up, it seems we’ve been wasting our time!
It is a shame that in a so-called free and democratic society there exists agencies with mandates that include relegating those they view as irritants to blacklists, effectively designating them personae non grata and marking them for socio-economic exclusion.
But what would be even more shameful is if the highest office of such a government winks at this conduct when it is brought to its attention.
I can be bothered with working at a legitimate job, Prime Minister; it’s all I’ve ever wanted! And there is a labour shortage, according to you.
Dwight Campbell
