PORT ANTONIO, Portland — The traffic police in Port Antonio says it will implement traffic changes in the town starting on Wednesday, December 20 that will last until Saturday, January 6, 2024.

Superintendent in charge of the Portland Police Division Lloyd Darby, in announcing the changes, said the police is encouraging motorists and persons to avoid Port Antonio if possible.

“If you do not have to go to Port Antonio, avoid doing so,” Darby said.

He added: “The traffic changes are as follows: “This year our concentration is on the free flow of traffic and all activities that relate to that. We are deliberately asking persons who do not have business in the town of Port Antonio to avoid driving through because we always have the alternative through the Errol Flynn Marina for vehicles coming from the west to the east. This year we are moving to create an alternative for vehicles travelling from the east of Port Antonio, if you don”t have to go through Port Antonio. That avenue is travel along Bridge Street. Bridge Street is already a one-way, when you come out at Somers Road, you go straight across Somers Town Road up Bonnie View which will be made a one-way. We won’t have vehicles coming down from Bonnie View as we will have barriers, signs, and police supervision. The vehicles will go straight up to Portland Road and use any one of those roads to exit the town. These one-way streets will not accommodate trucks as they will use the regular route.”
