NCU student cops top innovation competition prize
James Barrett, a talented computer science student at Northern Caribbean University (NCU), was crowned winner of the GP Innovation Competition finals on November 29 at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston.
This competition brought together finalists from universities across Jamaica, all showcasing outstanding and innovative business ideas. Barrett was awarded the first place after an astounding presentation of his I-Learn application, which is designed to assist Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) and Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE) students prepare for examinations using artificial intelligence. The first-place prize was a cash award and linkages to potential investors.
Barrett was prepared for the competition by the Morris Entrepreneurship Centre (MEC) at NCU, which works with students from all disciplines as well as members of the public to develop and commercialise business ideas.
