Chapters, a one-woman business, has officially launched a book club with the aim of contributing to the increase in the country’s literacy rate. The launch event unfolded at the AC Hotel, bringing together literacy enthusiasts, local authors and poets under one roof to celebrate an additional support system for creatives. The gathering featured a showcase of local authors and their published books, set to become integral to the book-reading programme.
“I am dedicated to assisting the cause of raising the country’s literacy rates through this organisation,” said its founder, Jameika Johnson, during her address to the audience. Johnson revealed that the idea was driven by the alarming statistics from UNESCO, which revealed that over 200,000 adults in the country lack basic reading and writing skills. The Business Social was on site to capture the highlights of this impactful launch event.
