Flow champions the spirit of volunteerism
On the heels of its Mission Week activity, Flow and the Flow Foundation are honouring International Volunteers’ Day, a global initiative by the United Nations celebrated on December 5. This day shines a spotlight on the selfless efforts of volunteers who embody this year’s theme: “The power of collective action”.
Flow’s commitment to volunteerism is not just a statement but a core part of our culture, exemplified by our recent annual Mission Week. Mission Week is a testament to how our people can make a positive impact in the community. Focusing on key areas such as Learning, Broadband Access, and Disaster Relief, hundreds of employees engaged in various initiatives, demonstrating the company’s philosophy, that “Heart is more than something we have, it’s something we share”.
Flow Foundation volunteer, Marsha-Lee Meridith, said she was moved by the power of volunteerism during her first Mission Week event. “This is my first time participating in Mission Week and I can honestly say that I was blown away by the experience. There are not enough words to describe the impact of going into the schools and working with the students on their School-Based Assessments. I learnt a lot from them and I am looking forward to next year”.
Courtney Bell, the Flow Foundation’s Community Programmes Coordinator, highlighted the critical role of volunteers in the success of company-led initiatives. “Our volunteers are the heartbeat of our operations,” Bell stated, commending their passion and commitment to service. “Every initiative, every outreach could not take place without their commitment and dedication. We owe our success to their ongoing support of our initiatives. I commend their passion and willingness to serve.”
The Flow Foundation, aligning with its mission of “connecting communities, changing lives,” has also enhanced the broadband access of the Council for Voluntary Social Services. This free upgrade offers Flow’s fibre-fast network to boost the Council’s operational and outreach capabilities.
Beyond Mission Week, Flow Foundation volunteers are actively involved in various philanthropic endeavours, including support for children’s homes, schools, and church projects. This ongoing dedication underscores Flow’s commitment to fostering a culture of volunteerism and community support, making a tangible difference in the lives impacted.
