J’Voughnn Blake clocks 600m meet record in Boston
FORMER Jamaica College and national junior representative J’Voughnn Blake ran a meet record and personal best 1:18.43 minutes to win the men’s 600m at the HBCU & Ivy Challenge meet held at Harvard University in Boston on Saturday, as the US collegiate indoor season began.
The Dartmouth University runner, who was contesting the event for the first time, broke the meet record 1.19.90 seconds set last year by his teammate DJ Matusz.
There were also wins for former Herbert Morrison Technical athletes Daniella Anglin and Mark Daley, both of University of South Dakota, at Friday’s South Dakota State Holiday Invitational and Multi-Events .
Anglin, a former ISSA Champs winner and Carifta Games medalist, won the women’s high jump with a clearance of 1.68m.
Daley won the men’s 200m with a Summit League-leading 21.77 seconds.
Former Immaculate Conception throwers Maja Henry and Juliet Smith made the indoor debut for St John’s University in the women’s shot put at the St Johns University-Youree Spence-Garcia Meet held at Ocean Breeze complex in New York.
Henry was second with 13.28m and Smith fifth with 11.94m, both behind teammate and former St Jago High standout Grenadian Jamora Alves who won with 14.03m.
Former Hydel High thrower Terine Lambert of Morgan State University produced two lifetime-best performances at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Maryland, on Saturday.
She was second in the women’s shot put with 14.06m and sixth in the women’s weight throw with 15.90m, while her teammate and former Edwin Allen High thrower Johnelle Johnson was fourth in the weight throw with 16.17m and fifth in the shot put with 12.82m
Former Cornwall College jumper Omari McKenzie was third in the men’s triple jump with a personal best 14.66m.
