ISSA Ben Francis Cup semi-finals on today
CLARENDON, Jamaica – Former champions St Elizabeth Technical High (STETHS), and Frome Technical will take on first-time semi-finalists McGrath High and Happy Grove High, respectively, in the ISSA Ben Francis Cup competition on Wednesday.
Six-time champions STETHS will take on McGrath High at Manchester High School and Frome Technical faces Happy Grove High at Glenmuir High, both games are set to start at 3:00 pm.
Frome Technical are coming off back-to-back impressive wins in the competition, beating BB Coke 2-0 in the quarter-final, after beating Tacky High 4-1 in the first round, and will hope to carry this form into today’s game.
Kemar Beckford, who had scored a hat-trick in the first-round game and Stevaughn Spence, who scored both goals against BB Coke, will be expected to lead the Frome Technical team.
Happy Grove High will not be daunted, however, after beating Mile Gully High in the first round and Christiana High last week and will hope their defence will hold up against the high-flying Westmoreland that has scored the most goals so far.
The McGrath team will be confident as they have gotten better as the season progressed, holding a good Dinthill Technical team goalless in the quarterfinals of the daCosta Cup then had close wins over Port Antonio High and Manchester High.
STETHS, however, have also revved up their game and outscored Cornwall College 4-3 at home last week to secure their semi-final spot after edging William Knibb Memorial.
