Reggae Youths win three straight in Sandals Major League
SPOT VALLEY, St James — Champions Reggae Youths extended their perfect start to the St James Football Association/Sandals Resorts International Major League to three games after blanking Lilliput Rovers 2-0 in their first-round game at Spot Valley High on Saturday.
Shanoy Anderson followed up his hat-trick against Montego Bay Boys Club in the previous game, scoring both goals as Reggae Youths raced to nine points. They remain on top of the points table, one more than Flanker FC, who won back-to-back games with a 3-1 result over Wadada United FC in Mount Salem.
Heights FC and Cambridge United are tied on six points each, followed by Lilliput Rovers and Montego Bay Boys Club on three points each. Green Pond SC and Granville United are on one point each, while Irwin United and Wadada United are yet to get off the mark.
Anderson scored in each half on Saturday for a league-leading five goals to power Reggae Youths. He gave them the lead in the 11th minute and added a second in the 62nd minute.
Flanker FC’s Jermaine Irving almost mirrored Anderson as he also got a brace, in the 11th and 66th minutes, while Humboia Ford got his second goal in the 85th minute.
Howard Mair had tied up the scores for Wadada United when he scored his first goal of the season in the 24th minute.
It has been a tough return to the Major League for Wadada United after two seasons in the JFF Tier II league as they were beaten 1-3 by Heights FC in their opening game.
The former Premier League champions are last in the standings with just two goals scored and seven conceded.
