All Clarendon d’Cup final as CC, Glenmuir win semi-final games
CLARENDON, Jamaica — It will be an all Clarendon ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup final after champions Clarendon College and former winners Glenmuir High won their semi-final games against Garvey Maceo High and Dinthill Technical respectively on penalty kicks on Saturday.
Clarendon College beat Garvey Maceo High 4-3 on penalties after they had finished 1-1 in regulation time in their game played at Glenmuir High in May Pen while Glenmuir High returned to the final for the first time since 2012 with a 4-2 win over Dinthill Technical after playing out a 0-0 score line in regulation at Manchester High.
It was sweet revenge for Clarendon College as they avenged their most recent loss in the daCosta Cup competition when they lost to Garvey Maceo, the eventual champions, in the semi-finals of the 2021 season.
Both goals in regulation time came from the penalty spot with Malachi Douglas giving Clarendon College the lead seven minutes into time added at the end of the first half before Cleo Clarke equalised in the 76th minute.
It was the second time this season that Clarendon College had failed to win a game after they had drawn 1-1 against Cornwall College in a Round of 16 game as they extended their run of games without a loss to 37 games dating back to last season.
Both could set up a second final appearance as they will play in Tuesday’s semi-finals of the ISSA Champions Cup where Clarendon College will meet Hydel High and Glenmuir High meet Kingston College.
Clarendon College rolled the dice in their game, bringing on reserve goalkeeper Lydel Rodney for the regular starter Roshae Burrell and it paid dividends.
