Mt Pleasant beat Tivoli for fifth straight win in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Champions Mt Pleasant FA made it five wins from five starts as they edged Tivoli Gardens 1-0 in their Jamaica Premier League first round game played at Stadium East on Thursday.
Kimoni Bailey’s 44th minute goal carried the Theodore Whitmore-coached team to their fifth win and maintained their place at the top of the standings with 15 points.
There were also wins for Cavalier SC, Treasure Beach FC and Humble Lion, who outscored Montego Bay United 3-2.
Cavalier SC led 2-0 over Vere United at half time at the Wembley Centre of Excellence with an own goal in the 15th minute and Shaniel Thomas in the 29th minute.
Jalmaro Calvin made it 3-0 in the 71st minute before Kemar Beckford scored a consolation for Vere United in the 80th minute.
Promoted Treasure Beach came from a goal down to beat Molynes United 2-1 at the Anthony Spalding Complex.
Jevaughn Brown gave Molynes United the lead after 13 minutes but Treasure Beach equalised from the penalty spot in the 19th minute through Jahmaro Hall before Romario Smith scored the winner in the 26th minute.
At Effortville, Humble Lion’s Javon Smith and MBU’s Shavon McDonald scored braces in the game that was decided in the last three minutes.
Smith gave Humble Lion the lead in the 13th minute but McDonald made full use of his first start with goals in the 15th and 30th minutes to give MBU the lead.
Smith, however, completed his double in the 33rd minute to bring his team back on level terms before Roshane Sharpe came off the bench to score the winner in the 87th minute.
