The time has come for JamaicaEye in schools
Dear Editor,
The recent bomb threats, earthquake, violence in schools, and the increase in the cost of security services are demanding improved management systems in schools.
I believe that a most useful means by which that process could be advanced is through the installation of a comprehensive camera systems in all schools. The capacity of such a system to deter wrongdoings, capture valuable evidence, and reduce the cost of security for schools are most useful features for schools and the country.
This technology is being extensively promoted and used in developed countries, and I believe it should become a standard feature in school management in Jamaica. In this regard, I recommend that the presence of this technology in schools should become a part of Jamaica’s national security framework and be implemented as part of JamaicaEye.
Over time, the positive change of attitude that this camera system could engender among students and others on school grounds could carry over into their lives thereafter and eventually impact favourably on Jamaica’s crime rate.
These benefits justify a collaboration between the Ministry of National Security and the Ministry of Education to get a special version of JamaicaEye in schools.
