Mouth-watering clash expected in St Elizabeth Distaff
Canadian-bred American Tap returns for her second race on local soil in the 3rd staging of the $1.5-million St Elizabeth Distaff, one of three major races on tomorrow’s 10-race programme.
The three-year-old and upward Overnight Allowance contest going over one mile (1,600m) also included the unbeaten and talented American-bred Desert of Malibu, setting up an interesting race for top honours.
The Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide takes a closer look at each runner and their chances of winning.
1. AMERICAN TAP (CAN): (6 b m by Tapitue – American Castle) – Made a successful debut on local soil in the Nigel B Nunes Memorial Trophy over the 5-furlong (1,000m) straight course on October 21. American Tap, who was brought in specifically for the Mouttet Mile, easily brushed aside rivals by 4 ¾ lengths in a time of 58.2 on a common canter. American Tap steps up in distance here but according to her connections, she should easily get the journey and so another victory is on the card.
2. BABYLIKE: (4 dkb f by Savoy Stomp – Ladylike) – Has two already at this level without any success. Facing the likes of American Tap and Desert of Malibu, Babylike has no chance of winning here.
3. RING CHARMER: (5 b m by Where’s The Ring – Charming Beauty) – Hard to fancy here.
4. OUTBIDDER: (4 b f by Savoy Stomp – Rumble) – Has been running good races at this level in recent times. Outbidder could run well here once more.
5. LUKSOL (USA): (4 b f by Tapiture – Stunning Taste) – Is going to be left behind here.
6. RANI BANGALA: (4 b f by Savoy Stomp – Palace Gold) – Has developed into a noteworthy runner of late. Rani Bangala won her fourth-consecutive race on October 15 in an Overnight Allowance event going one mile, winning by 13 lengths in a time of 1:38.3. If she can reproduce that effort, Rani Bangala should be competitive here.
7. SISTREN TREASURE (USA): (3 b f Brethren – Katria) – Her only hope is for a minor placing.
8. DESERT OF MALIBU (USA): (4 ch f by Malibu Moon – Lady Digger) – Is unbeaten in three starts so far on local soil. Desert of Malibu has won twice going 5 furlongs straight and once over 5 ½ furlongs (1,100m). Desert of Malibu won by 14 lengths over 5 ½ furlongs in 1:05.2 on October 15, suggesting that she has talent. Whether or not Desert of Malibu can comfortably run a mile, she will make a telling bid here.
