Get the look: Classic Cornrows
Cornrows are the protective, low-maintenance style we’re rocking right now.
Sure, you can do a bunch of fancy designs, but those simple straight-back braided cornrows are sleek and timeless.
Tuesday Style Dryer (TSD) noticed the popularity of the style at the recent Healthy Hair & Beauty Expo held a few weeks ago at the Jamaica Pegasus hotel.
St Thomas-based braider Saphina Scarlett — stationed at the Supreme Hair booth — had several requests for the style. She says though the style is laid-back, once you keep the parts sharp, and the braids neat, you’re sure to steal the show. The protective style also works well with both natural and processed hair.
Feast your eyes on Scarlett’s four-cornrow style. While it may not be the wildest adventure in hairstyling, it’s the colour-packed feed in braids that make all the difference.
Before You Get Started
Healthy roots and edges and a moisturised scalp are a must.
Blow dry tightly coiled hair before braiding to stretch curls and give cornrows a neater look.
Avoid getting tight cornrow braids to prevent scalp tension and hair damage.
Restrict the use of hair products on cornrow braids to avoid product build-up.
