SO2 PART 3

Meanwhile…

The Hollywood Reporter (THR) Beauty Dinner celebrating THR’s 2023 Beauty Issue drew a chic roster of stars who were joined by their glam gurus at Holloway House for cocktails, dinner and mingling. Among them was American singer-songwriter and rapper Janelle Monáe in the Enext dress from Greta Constantine Resort 2024. The label is helmed by Kirk Pickersgill.

Plus…

Fashion stylist and Emmy Award-winning costume designer Zerina Akers, who boasts Jamaican and Panamanian heritage, styled the Queen of R&B Mary J Blige in Diotima and Brandon Blackwood NY for her Glamour Magazine Woman of the Year spread. Diotima, a New York-based womenswear label is fronted by Jamaican Rachel Scott, while Jamaican-American designer Brandon Blackwood helms his eponymous line of accessories and clothing.

On Friday, October 27, the American Friends of Jamaica (AFJ) duly recognised Jamaican-born entrepreneur Paula Kerr-Jarrett Wegman and her business mogul husband, Wegmans Food Markets Chairman Danny Wegman, with the coveted 2023 International Humanitarian Award at the Hummingbird Gala held at The Plaza Hotel, New York City.

Hundreds turned out for black tie-optional dinner and awards, and we spotted a few familiar face in attendance. Among them Jamaican politico Lisa Hanna, US Ambassador to Jamaica N Nick Perry, and New York-based, Rock-blooded fashion designer Samantha Black.

Annually, the AFJ recognises individuals or businesses for their dedicated acts of generosity towards and unwavering support of the welfare of Jamaica.
