‘I am feeling wonderful!’
HAVING secured their first hold on the Canadian Baxter Travel Industry Golf Tournament Trophy, team leader of Confidence Travel Wendy Hsu said she was very ecstatic with the expereince and promised her team will be back next year to defend the title.
The Confidence Travel team which also comprises Christopher Greogoris, Leo Tam and Tom Liu, shot a combined score of 172 in the 18-hole tournament to win by five shots at Sandals Golf and Country Club in Upton Estate, St Ann, over the weekend.
The team of Gord Ramkisson, Lalita Ramkisson, Leonard Sanicharan, and Lalita Sanicharan was second with a total score of 133, while third went to the team of David Harris, Doug Rollheiser, Jacques Gilbert and Jason Jenkins with a combined total of 134.
Hsu, who was playing in the tournament for the second time, said they had a great time and will be returning to the competition in 2024.
“I am feeling wonderful about winning this competition because we had a lot of fun, and that was the main goal for us,” said Hsu. “We also played well, and the caddies also helped a lot [in assisting us] to understand the course. And, we had a very relaxing two days of golf here and we enjoyed that,” she said.
“We will definitely be coming back because this is a wonderful resort — the golf course and all the hospitality was great and we really enjoyed being in Jamaica,” Hsu added.
She added that they were “surprised” they won the tournament because there were a lot of other good teams in the championships who all played well over the two days of competition.
“We were very surprised that we won this tournament and so we are just all taking it in and so we are just happy that we get to represent Canada at other tournaments,” Hsu said.
The tournament raised over US$2,000 ($300,000), which will go towards Sandals Foundation. Hsu noted that her team has made a contribution to the foundation because they’ve always loved supporting charity organisations.
“It was great to see the Jamaican junior players; and we have donated something to help their charity and we are all very happy about this because giving back something, that is very special to us,” Hsu ended.
