GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC) – Two men and one woman were arrested in the wee hours of Sunday morning in Guyana for allegedly attempting to scam a number of Automatic Teller Machines (ATM), police said.

The Guyana Police Force said at about 12:15 Sunday morning detectives from its Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested 37-year old technician Bhojnarine ‘Sandeep’ Gopaul, 26-year old welder Tulsie Rampersaud and 37-year old superbet cashier Akashmati Ramnaraine, who were all under surveillance after a report was made that they were targeting the ATM machines of several commercial banks.

Detectives said the trio were observed visiting one Citizen Bank ATM machine, at a mall in Georgetown, where Rampersaud dressed in a black hoodie and red short pants and went into the ATM outlet, spent about 40 seconds and returned to a black car occupied by his accomplices.

They then left the mall and went to a Citizen Bank ATM at another location in Georgetown, where Rampersaud was again observed exiting the car and entering the ATM outlet, where he spent about 45 seconds, before returning to the car.

Detectives then intercepted and searched the car and found four cards: one Bank of America Visa Debit Card, one New York State Medicaid Recipient Card, and two blank cards.
