Deputy Mayor of Savanna-la-Mar receives warm welcome at JLP meeting
ST JAMES, Jamaica – Deputy Mayor of Savanna-la-Mar, Ian Myles, who recently crossed the floor to the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) was on Sunday given a warm welcome at a St James Southern constituency conference.
Myles, a former People’s National Party (PNP) member who crossed the floor during the monthly general meeting of the Westmoreland Municipal Corporation on September 17, was attending his first JLP public meeting since crossing the floor.
Myles walked in during the meeting being held at the Anchovy High School in St James in a black and white shirt causing the meeting to be interrupted as Labourites gathered ran towards him and hugged him.
It did not stop there as the party-like atmosphere continued when Myles was welcomed by the chairman of the meeting. Myles was then presented with a green shirt which he put on, danced and shook the hands of those present.
Myles is one of three councillors who resigned from the PNP in July to register their objection to PNP Vice President, Ian Hayles, being the party’s choice to represent the party in Westmoreland Western in the next general election
The other two councillors are Garfield James of the Sheffield division and Lawton McKenzie of the Grange Hill division.
McKenzie later returned to the PNP on September 15 while James joined the JLP along with Myles.
