UPDATE: Tamarind Farm prison escapee held in Portland

PORTLAND, Jamaica – Nathan Whitter, who escaped from the Tamarind Farm Adult Correctional Centre in St Catherine on Thursday, was captured at a house in Port Antonio, Portland on Friday morning.

The 25-year-old, who was serving a sentence of two years and six months for illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition, was among a group of inmates working on the farm under supervision on Thursday morning when he ran off and escaped custody.

According to the police, Whitter – who is from Orange Hill, Browns Town, St Ann – was held in a targetted raid at a house on King Street in Port Antonio just after 11:00 am on Friday.

The police are carrying out further investigations.
