Take Style Out 2023
The Jamaica Observer’s annual retail event, Take Style Out (TSO), commenced with a launch at Ammar’s on October 23.
TSO, in its 14th year, initially began as Fashion’s Night Out (FNO) and has had Ammar’s as a key participant since 2009. The launch coincided with Ammar’s 62nd-anniversary sale, running until November 4.
Novia McDonald-Whyte, TSO conceptualiser, discussed the relationship between the Jamaica Observer, TSO, and Ammar’s. She encouraged attendees to relive the excitement and fun of high-energy shopping sprees with friends and family, harking back to the early FNO days.
Michael Ammar, Ammar’s director, recalled the initial phone call from McDonald-Whyte that led to the event’s success. He highlighted how TSO remains one of the store’s most anticipated events, citing its importance for boosting retail sales during a typically slow month.
Deep discounts are a significant part of TSO, aiming to stimulate the local market. Ammar stressed the value of in-store shopping, emphasising the tactile experience and personal service, which online shopping can’t replicate.
Sponsors from National Commercial Bank (NCB) and Guardian General, who were also present, shared news and incentives for TSO shoppers as well. NCB cardholders using Visa cards have a chance to win prizes, and NCB offers the FlexiPay feature for easy payments. Guardian General offers special discounts for clients and hosted an artisan village yesterday at their Dominica Drive, New Kingston location.
The launch event also featured entertainment, including a runway performance by Island Child Style, showcasing Ammar’s fashion range for children.
TSO 2023 is powered by NCB, Multilink, Guardian Group, Island Car Rentals, EDGE105 and FYAH105.
