Overdue Knights win
MONTEGO BAY, St James – After several delays and rescheduling due to poor weather, Cricket Club Knights were finally crowned champions of the Western Basketball Association’s Men’s Invitational, beating Boys Club Warriors 62-59 at Montego Bay Cricket Club on Saturday, to complete a 2-0 series win.
Cricket Club Knights, who had won the first game 71-65, trailed at the end of the third quarter before outscoring Boys Club Warriors 22-16 in the fourth quarter to close out the best-of-three series.
The game brought to an end the season where Lady Elite1 also won the Female Invitational League title, beating Lady Warriors in the final.
On Saturday, the teams were tied at 14-all after the first quarter before Boys Club Warriors surged ahead to lead 30-25 at half-time and while Cricket Club rallied in the third quarter, Warriors still led 43-40.
Alwyn Newsome had a double-double for Cricket Club, scoring 17 points and had 22 rebounds, Andre Hill scored 14 points and had nine rebounds, Lemar Mitchell scored 14 points and had seven rebounds while Rayon Gardiner had 14 rebounds to go with nine points and nine assists.
Le’Var Rose led all scorers with 31 points while Ryheem Barrett scored nine points and had 15 rebounds as Jordan Colquehorn scored six points and had 12 rebounds with Jerold Grant scoring four points and having 10 rebounds.
