Chef among three charged for insurance fraud
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A chef was brought before the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday for fraud, having been accused of taking payment from two motorists to secure car insurance documents for them.
Burrell Rose stood before Senior Parish Judge Lori-Ann Cole-Montague to answer to the charges of obtaining money by false pretense, accessory before and after the fact, conspiracy to defraud and aiding and abetting forgery.
The motorists, taxi driver Rohan Bolton and Ryan Johnson, are charged with forgery in separate cases.
Court documents revealed that on October 3, Rose, Bolton and Johnson went to the station to have the motorists’ vehicles released after they were seized due to violation of the Traffic Act. However, according to the prosecution, when the police officer handling the matter made checks as it relates to the documents for the vehicles, it was revealed that the insurance documents were forged.
The court was told that investigators later learned that Rose allegedly told the men to pay him $40,000 each to secure the car insurance documents for them.
After hearing the allegations in the matters, the judge made fingerprints orders for the men. Rose was ordered to report to the nearest police station on Wednesdays from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. He was also ordered to surrender all travel documents and a stop order is to be placed at all ports.
Rose is to return to court on January 11, when it is expected that outstanding documents will be on file.
As for Bolton and Johnson, they were both ordered to return to court on January 16.
