Suspect on the run after lodging spade handle in man’s head in St Elizabeth
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — The St Elizabeth police have launched a manhunt in search of a man who allegedly used a spade handle to kill another man by lodging the object in his head during a dispute in Tryall district, near Junction, in St Elizabeth on Monday.
Police named the deceased man as JoWayne Witter, 24, otherwise called ‘Iron’, a resident and labourer of Tryall district.
A police report said about 3:00 pm, Witter and a man were at a bar on the Down Country main road in Tryall when an argument developed between them.
Police said the man left the bar and went outside and waited for Witter.
Police reported that Witter was attacked by the man with a metal object and hit several times in the head.
The man escaped on foot in the area, the police said.
Sources told Observer Online that the suspect is believed to be of unsound mind. It is also said that Witter was trying to walk away from his attacker by going to his motorcycle when he was bludgeoned with the spade handle resulting in it being lodged in his head, causing him to collapse.
Witter was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
