JPL clubs to receive $12.6m from Sports Ministry – Grange
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Olivia Grange, announced on Tuesday that $12.6 million will be given to the 14 clubs in the Wray and Nephew Jamaica Premier League (JPL) , starting November 2023.
The money is to be paid over in monthly subventions of $150,000.00.
“The ministry through the Sports Development Foundation (SDF) will make payments to the clubs from November until April 2024. Once again, I am providing this support to the Premier League and since it is not unusual for the Premier League season to go beyond April, I will again consider maintaining the subvention until the end of the season,” Grange said in a release.
“I believe that this support from the Government of Jamaica not only assists the Premier League but is also in the interest of Jamaica’s football in general. It is our hope that a vibrant Premier League will produce players for the national programme in a timely fashion,” she added.
