Red Stripe unveils ‘Suh Wi Dweet – Everyday Hero Award’ for National Heroes’ Day
Red Stripe has announced the launch of the ‘Suh Wi Dweet – Everyday Hero Award,’ which is a heartfelt tribute to the unsung heroes of Jamaica who tirelessly uplift their communities.
This initiative is perfectly aligned with the celebration of Jamaica’s Heroes’ Day, providing communities across the nation with a platform to nominate and celebrate their everyday heroes, Red Stripe said in a statement on Friday.
According to Arnaldo Martin, assistant brand manager for Red Stripe, “Jamaica’s Heroes’ Day holds a special place in the hearts of our nation, commemorating the remarkable legacies of our national heroes and those who have left indelible marks on Jamaican society.
“As the nation prepares to pay homage to its historical icons, Red Stripe seized this opportunity to acknowledge individuals who, in their own unique ways, serve as ongoing sources of inspiration and upliftment, echoing the sentiments of our Suh Wi Dweet campaign,” the statement read.
The award nomination process is now open to everyone and has been created to be accessible and straightforward. Anyone who is 18 years of age or older can nominate someone who has made a commendable contribution to their community for the award. The award ceremony will be held on Heroes’ Day, and the recipient will be showcased on Red Stripe’s billboard and radio advertisements. Additionally, the recipient will be awarded $100,000 in cash
The Everyday Hero Award forms part of Red Stripe’s ‘Suh Wi Dweet’ campaign, which celebrates moments that bring Jamaicans together through culture, sport, music, food, and everyday experiences. The award fulfils the brand’s intention to extend this spirit of recognition and appreciation to people who serve their communities but who may not have received the spotlight they deserve.
“The heart and soul of Jamaica are in our everyday heroes. These individuals are the unsung champions among us who light up our communities and leave a lasting, positive impact. So, this initiative is our way of giving them a big shoutout, saying ‘Cheers,’ and showing just how much we appreciate all they do. It’s all about coming together as one big Jamaican family and spreading some love and gratitude around,” Martin added.
To participate, eligible members of the public must visit Red Stripe’s website to upload a recent, recognisable photo of their community hero and provide their full name, contact information, and social media handles, if applicable. Additionally, they must include a brief paragraph explaining why they want to honour the individual as a hero, highlighting their exceptional contributions.
To ensure fairness and authenticity, nominators must use the full proper name of their community hero, no nicknames; submit only one nomination per person; and ensure the nominee is from their community
Red Stripe is inviting all Jamaicans to participate in this “heartwarming initiative” and celebrate the everyday heroes who inspire others with their selflessness and dedication to their communities. Nominations close on Friday, October 20, 2023.
