Francis headlines seven juveniles for BGLC/TOBA Heroes Sprint
Seven juvenile are set to compete in the $1.25-million Betting, Gaming and Lotteries Commission (BGLC)/Thoroughbred Owners’ and Breeders’ Association (TOBA) of Jamaica Heroes Sprint on Sunday’s nine-race card.
The native-bred two-year-old maiden special weight contest will run over five furlongs (1,000m) on the round course.
Below is the analysis of each runner and their chances of winning.
1. BUTTERCUP: (2 b f by Conquest Cherimash – Shahar) – Finished fourth on debut behind stablemate Miss Cherry over five furlongs straight on September 30. Buttercup has worked fairy well for her second outing but with some hot steppers present, a minor placing looks her best chance here.
2. RUN JULIE RUN: (2 gr f by Successful Native – Runaway Julie) – Nicely-bred filly who has been impressive in the mornings at exercise. Run Julie Run, who is a half-sister to Sotomayor and Artesia, is expected to make a favourable impression the first time of asking. Run Julie Run can win.
3. BLU SENSATION: (2 b f by Sensational Slam – Blues In The Grass) – Came home second behind Banadura on debut over three furlongs (600m) on August 1. Blu Sensation, a stablemate of Run Julie Run, returns here well-trained after a 75-day break. Blu Sensation is going to appreciate this extended trip and so is expected to put in another good run. Note: Tongue-Tie on.
4. DON’T TELL LOU LOU: (2 b f by Savoy Stomp – Lastochka) – Has not done anything impressive at exercise to suggest that she is going to be competitive on debut here. Don’t Tell Lou Lou is going to be left behind here.
5. QUEEN OF SOUL: (2 ch f by Soul Warrior – Aretha) – Makes her debut here with connections expecting a good run. Queen of Soul has been timely prepared for this trophy event and should make a favourable first impression. Queen of Soul is a half-sister to Shadowfax and Hedge Craft. Hedge Craft makes his debut as a three-year-old on Saturday, October 14.
6. FRANCIS: (2 b f by Savoy Stomp – Jazzy Jet) – Was no match for stablemate Miss Cherry on debut on September 30. Francis finished second by 3 ½ lengths in a reasonable time of 1:02.1. With the run and experience under her girth, Francis could lead home competitors here. Note: First time Lasix.
7. SHERIF IN TOWN: (2 ch c by Sensational Slam – Antoinette) – Has trained fairly well for his debut run here. Sherif In Town, who is a half-brother to Awesome Anthony, is not expected to be unsaddled in the winners’ enclosure after this race.
