Cricket Club eyes WBA title
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Cricket Club Knights will on Saturday evening seek to wrap up the Western Basketball Association’s Men’s Invitational League title when they take a one-game lead into Game Two of their best-of-three final against Boys Club Warriors at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
Knights took the lead last weekend after winning Game One 71-65 at the same venue and will be gunning to finish the competition on Saturday.
If needed a Game Three would be played the next day.
On Sunday, three players registered double-doubles for Cricket Club who led from the first quarter and managed to hold off the Boys Club team.
Cricket Club led 18-13 at the end of the first quarter before Warriors cut the deficit to one point, 34-33, at half-time but Knights won the third quarter 22-16 to increase their lead to 56-49 and held on to win.
Alwyn Newsome scored 18 points and had 12 rebounds for Cricket Club, player/Coach Jhaun Bryan scored 10 points and had 14 rebounds, Rayon Gardiner also scored 10 points and had 12 rebounds and six assists while Lemar Mitchell scored 13 points and Andre Hill scored 12.
Levar Rose led all scorers with 28 points for Boys Club Warriors, Giovanni Bailey scored nine points and had six assists and five rebounds, Jordan Colquehord scored eight points and had 15 rebounds while Ryheen Barrett grabbed 13 rebounds.
