New Montego Bay United boss promises JPL title by 2026
ST JAMES, Jamaica— Newly appointed president of Montego Bay United, Yoni Epstein says the former champions will win the Jamaica Premier League in the next three years.
Epstein, who will take over the running of the former champions from previous president Orville Powell, at the start of the new Jamaica Premier League season, made the prediction at Wednesday morning’s ceremonial handing over of the club at an event held at Wespow Park in Tucker, St James.
“Our fans will be expecting the best from us,” Epstein said, while promising that fans will have a lot to cheer for.
The often controversial Powell ran the club for 12 years after changing its name from Seba United and saw them win the Premier League in the 2014 and 2016 seasons during a stretch where they qualified for the finals three straight years.
In his presentation, Powell likened the club to a relay race and said it was “important to be part of the race,” and he hoped the new owners “will take it where I was not able to.”
MBU will open their season away to newly promoted Lime Hall Academy at Drax Hall on Sunday, October 22.
