Dear Editor,

On behalf of shareholder Michael Lee-Chin, the board of management, our 4,000 coffee farmers and 300 members of staff as well as other stakeholders of the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory Limited, I write to express sincere condolence to Shirley Williams and the family on the passing of R Danny Williams, Order of Jamaica (OJ).

Williams had been a committed Mavis Bank Coffee Factory farmer in the Jamaica Blue Mountain region and also served on the Mavis Bank Coffee Factory Board as chairman between 2006 and 2011. Personally, I enjoyed a tremendous relationship with him during this time and shared and enjoyed his transformation of Jamaica College as past students.

He has been a champion and national icon of entrepreneurship in Jamaica and an advocate for rural communities.

Williams has made tremendous contribution to the development of agriculture and in particular as a coffee farmer. He has left Jamaica a better place.

We salute a champion.

May his soul rest in peace.
