Blue Power Group’s revenue soars by 66%
SOAP manufacturer Blue Power Group Limited has achieved $871 million in revenues for the financial year (FY) ended April 30, 2023, marking a 66 per cent increase compared to the previous year.
The revenue growth was attributed to the company’s “strategic initiatives and efforts to establish long-term customer relationships with leading soap brands and distribution enterprises within Jamaica,” according to its recently published annual report.
The report further stated that the increased sales volumes allowed Blue Power to gain efficiencies in procurement and production. The company also benefited from improved logistics costs for raw materials, contributing to enhanced profitability.
The company saw a steady increase in gross profit margins throughout the year, closing at an impressive 24 per cent. Gross profits soared by 37 per cent, reaching an additional $57 million. Despite challenges in the previous year related to one-off gains from the sale of land and equities, the company posted a commendable net profit after tax of $81.4 million for FY 2023. When excluding these one-off gains from the equation, the net profit reveals a substantial increase of $71.3 million compared to the prior year.
While Blue Power is still facing challenges exporting to Caricom markets, it has managed to generate robust sales growth in other regions, with a primary focus on the US market. Export sales nearly doubled, reaching $74 million, a remarkable achievement over the previous year’s $38 million.
In a statement from the executive vice-chairman of Blue Power Group, Jeffery Hall, he highlighted the company’s commitment to efficiency, innovation, and customer development as a core part of their strategy for sustained, profitable growth. “During the year, we continued to undertake capital projects and make improvements to our procurement arrangements, quality systems, labour efficiency, production facilities, and product lines,” he said in his statement. He further stated that the company remains optimistic about growing its export volumes in the years ahead; aligning with Jamaica’s goal of developing a logistics-centred economy with value-added manufacturing that serves regional and international markets. Blue Power also expresses its readiness to diversify its business through strategic investments in related industries.
The Jamaica Observer tried to get in contact with the Chairman Hall to ascertain more details on the company’s innovation plans and how it plans to grow its export market; however, several calls to his phone went unanswered.
The company supplies the Jamaican market with a wide range of bath and laundry soaps, including value-products, medicated soaps, antibacterial soaps, beauty soaps, and natural soaps formulated with local ingredients to support healthy skin.
