Schoolboy football returns to Catherine Hall
CATHERINE HALL, St James – The Montego Bay Sports Complex could host Inter-secondary School Sports Association (ISSA) football games this season after a break of about three years as the organisers have scheduled games for the facility.
The venue has for years been the ‘home’ of rural area football, hosting the opening games of the ISSA season and finals of the daCosta Cup and Ben Francis KO competitions until the deterioration of the playing surface forced them to move elsewhere.
The venue was closed earlier this year for comprehensive refurbishing. Deputy mayor of Montego Bay, Richard Vernon recently told Observer West the proposed October reopening of the venue for football was still a possibility.
Catherine Hall also hosted Premier League games and was used as home venue by Montego Bay United before they moved to their present home in Tucker.
The official fixtures sent out by ISSA listed Catherine Hall as the venue for the daCosta Cup semi-finals set for Saturday, November 25 and is tentatively named to host the final of both the Ben Francis KO and daCosta Cup finals.
It is possible that games could be played earlier in the season, depending on the teams that have qualified for the latter parts of the competition where games are played on ‘neutral’ grounds.
