WATCH: Two-month-old girl dies after house collapses
ST ANDREW, Jamaica – A two-month-old baby girl is dead after a family home in Stony Hill, St Andrew collapsed early Tuesday morning. Her twin sister was rescued and is now in hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Timera Dennie.
Reports are that about 6:15 am, the twins, their parents and their four-year-old sister were inside their one bedroom concrete structure when the house collapsed.
“At 6:23 am, this call came in to the Jamaica Fire Brigade (JFB), one unit from Stony Hill Station initially responded. On arrival here, they recognised the magnitude and the urgency of the situation of the collapsed structure…,” Patrick Gooden, Senior Superintendent of the JFB told Observer Online.
After extensive efforts by the firefighters, Timera’s twin sister was located and promptly transported to the hospital, accompanied by their mother.
“(Firefighters) commenced a search and rescue operation immediately, which involved units from Half-Way-Tree and York Park. Throughout the course of the operation, they would have discovered what appears to be something resembling a human and so, the operation would have been seized at that time,” Gooden added.
Timera’s body was recovered from the rubbles by firefighters and residents, and was transported to the Bustamante Hospital for Children where she was pronounced dead.
