St Andrew Central, Grand Cayman Lions clubs join forces for glasses donation
IN a remarkable demonstration of international service and solidarity, the Lions Club of Tropical Gardens Grand Cayman has extended its service beyond borders to join hands with the Lions Club of St Andrew Central, Jamaica, in executing a powerful cross-border collaboration.
This initiative — a partnership with Jamaica Society for the Blind — aims to significantly enhance the quality of life for many Jamaicans who are in need but cannot afford eyeglass frames and magnifiers. The estimated value of this generous donation, which took place on Saturday, September 23, 2023, is an astounding $3.2 million.
According to a press release issued by president of St Andrew Central Lion Christine McNeil and Lions Club of Tropical Gardens Cato Lee, the joint effort showcases the Lions’ unwavering commitment to their motto, “We Serve.”
“By bridging the geographical gap and combining their resources, these Lions clubs have made a meaningful impact on the lives of countless individuals in Jamaica. The act of providing 685 pairs of glasses and 29 magnifiers not only exemplifies their dedication to supporting Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), particularly SDG 3, which focuses on ensuring good health and well-being for all but also highlights the Lions’ spirit of collaboration, compassion, stewardship and global citizenship,” read a statement by both clubs.
The presidents further described the ongoing partnership with Jamaica Society for the Blind as exponential and transformative.
“The success of this initiative was made possible through the tireless efforts of Customs officers who facilitated the timely clearance of the donation, enabling its presentation on the designated date. The Lions clubs extend their heartfelt thanks to these officers, acknowledging their passion and commitment to service, which have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated.
“This cross-border collaboration sets a shining example of how collective action, driven by a shared commitment to improving lives, can transcend boundaries and create a positive impact in our global community. The Lions Club of Tropical Gardens Grand Cayman and the Lions Club of St Andrew Central look forward to continuing their efforts to serve and uplift those in need, reaffirming their status as ‘Knights of the Blind’ and champions of goodwill,” the statement said.
