JDF Coast Guard arrests four Nicaraguans following ganja seizure
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica – Four Nicaraguans have been arrested following a seizure of several bags of compressed ganja off the coast of Black River, St Elizabeth on Wednesday morning.
Chief of police in the parish, Deputy Superintendent Coleridge Minto, said about midnight, members of the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard intercepted the boat about four miles out at sea with four Nicaraguans onboard.
“…The search of the vessel revealed that four men were on board, where they identified themselves as persons from Nicaragua. The vessel and the men were escorted to the pier right at Black River,” Minto said.
He added: “A further search of the vessel revealed several bags containing vegetable matter resembling ganja.”
The four men were subsequently arrested and taken to the Black River Criminal Investigations Branch pending further investigations, said Minto.
The Area 3 Narcotics team was contacted and Scenes of Crimes were contacted and are currently processing the area.
