Two from two for Geolithic
THREE-YEAR-OLD American-bred bay filly Geolithic, conditioned by Peter-John Parsard, continued her progression by winning her second-consecutive race from four starts on local soil on Saturday, September 16, 2023.
Geolithic, bred by Neolithic out of Queen G, easily defeated rivals by 8¾ lengths in a three-year-old and upwards (non-winners of three) for overseas-bred horses, and a native-bred three-year and four-year-old (non-winners of four) going a mile (1,600m).
Geolithic received a strong start from Reyan Lewis and led the field past the intersection at the seven-furlong mark (1,400m), in front of Burlap (Dane Dawkins) and Mrs Lyndhurst (Javaniel Patterson).
Burlap took the lead as the field approached the six-furlong (1,200m) post. He then started to extend his lead over Geolithic, Strike Smart (Omar Walker), and Modern Miracle (Oshane Nugent). Burlap had a sizeable lead going into the half-mile turn and was attempting to steal the march on the field.
In the final furlong Geolithic, who had drifted wide at the turn, changed gear and accelerated past competitors to comfortably
defeat Mrs Lyndhurst and Strike Smart. It took 1:41.3 (23.3 x 46.0 x 1:12.0) to complete the race.
“Well, I am happy with the win but I was actually worried throughout the race when she was backing up,” Parsard told Jamaica Observer‘s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“We weren’t as confident as we were at the start of the race when we saw what was happening but we were very pleased to see her making a second run back at them and so the most important thing at this stage is that she won.
“From there we’ll try to move forward and see if there is anything we can tighten up on her. She has some better horses to face coming out of the Classic campaign shortly. She is pretty green right now but maybe she can keep improving and prove her value,” Parsard opined.
