Golding should resign for ‘dissing’ our ancestors
Dear Editor,
Our ancestors toiled too hard, suffered too long, and faced too much brutal and undignified punishment for People’s National Party President Mark Golding, who’s the son of an Englishman, to glibly pose on a platform while he pretends to free a Jamaican man of African descent from bondage.
As someone who is aware of my history and the bitter struggle waged by our foreparents to secure their and our freedom, I was deeply pained by a video and images which surfaced from Golding’s recent South St Andrew constituency conference.
The video and photographs showed Golding moving between smiling and scowling while he held aloft a chain above the head of the black man who was sporting locks and had a look of tremendous agony on his face.
Such poor judgement on his part to involve himself in a skit which is deeply offensive and disrespectful to the blood, sweat, and tears shed by our ancestors, many of whom lost their lives in the struggle, warrants Golding’s immediate resignation.
Golding has “dissed” our ancestors. A clear message must be sent that the battles waged by our foreparents is not a joke and should never be mocked.
