Records on the line
LUCEA, Hanover – Rusea’s High and Frome Technical will put unbeaten records on the line on Saturday when they clash in a big ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup Zone B first-round game at the Collin Miller Sports Complex in Lucea.
Rusea’s High lead the group with nine points from their three-straight wins, while Frome Technical are on six points from their two wins.
On Friday, the battle in Zone A will continue with leaders Cornwall College hosting Spot Valley, surprise second-placed Maldon High takes on St James High and Irwin High are home to last-placed Green Pond.
Rusea’s High will hope to atone for failing to beat Frome Tech last year, losing once and drawing the other game as they were runners-up to the western Westmoreland school in the zone.
Rusea’s High are coming off a 5-0 win over Merlene Ottey High as Frome Tech rested in midweek and have scored 12 goals, double Frome Tech’s six goals with just one more game played.
On Friday, Cornwall College will hope to get the better of Spot Valley High who have won and lost in their last two outings, beating St James High then losing to Maldon High.
Cornwall College came from a goal down on Tuesday to overpower Green Pond high 3-1 and could use that result to spur them on as the competition heats up.
Maldon High will be confident after scoring eight goals in their last two games, both wins, and after just missing out by a point on qualifying for the second round last year, will hope to make up.
St James High has not impressed so far this year, edging Green Pond 1-0 before losing 2-1 at Spot Valley and will need to lift their game playing away to Maldon High.
Irwin High are expected to get the better of Green Pond and stay in touch with the leaders.
