ARC Manufacturing Ltd and Caribbean Cement Company last Thursday signed an agreement to extend its partnership in which the cement producer will continue producing ARC-branded cement. The deal will see Caribbean Cement producing the construction material for ARC for the next five years, with an option to renew for another five years. Both companies have been in the arrangement for the past 10 years.
Norman Horne, executive chairman of ARC Manufacturing, expressed optimism about the partnership’s future, and the event received praise for its positive impact on the Jamaican business landscape.
“ARC Manufacturing Ltd and Caribbean Cement Company have had a very long, long relationship. ARC, as you know, is a manufacturing distributer of building materials, and cement is one of the most critical ingredients in the building material frame. Without cement the business is finished, and so it is such a critical product. In the wisdom of Carib Cement and ARC, we decided to take a nationalist view. To me, Jamaica will always be important, and in serving Jamaica we have to put Jamaica first at all times. And so, with that nationalistic view, it would be in Carib Cement and ARC’s best interest for us to form an alliance to eliminate the importation of cement [in] Jamaica,” shared Horne.
