Lady Elite1 in control of WBA Female Invitational League finals
Lady Elite1 have taken the lead in the best-of-three finals in the Western Basketball Association Female Invitational League after beating Lady Warriors 37-30 in game one played at the Montego Bay Cricket Club on Sunday.
Taveena Clarke led Lady Elite1 with 19 points and will seek to wrap up the title when game two is played later this week.
The men’s finalists are still to be decided after the semi-final game three between Cricket Club Knights and Granville Jaguars was postponed on Sunday.
Cricket Club Knights had tied up the series at 1-1 on Saturday and the winners will face Montego Bay Boys Club Warriors, who completed a 2-0 series win over Catherine Hall All-Stars with a 72-70 win on Saturday, also at the Montego Bay Cricket Club.
In the women’s final on Sunday, led by Lacie Allen who scored a game-high 25 points and had eight rebounds and nine steals, Lady Warriors led 13-11 and 21-19 after the first two quarters before Lady Elite1 took over.
Lady Elite1 led by one point 27-26 before outscoring Lady Warriors 10-4 in the final quarter.
In the men’s Invitational on Saturday, Boys Club Warriors eliminated Catherine Hall All-Stars, despite double-doubles from three Catherine Hall players.
Levar Rose scored 23 points to lead Boys Club, Norton Brown scored 11 points while Jevon Thomas scored 10 points. Ryheen Barrett grabbed 33 rebounds and Jordan Colquehoun had 17 rebounds.
Odane Whittaker scored 23 points and had 10 rebounds for Catherine Hall, Mikhail Smith scored 13 points and had 12 rebounds, while Robert Waugh scored 11 points and had 11 rebounds, and Craig Dorman scored 11 points.
