St Andrew Eastern Comrades show support for Hickling amid speculation over Hylton return
Despite indications that former member of parliament Andre Hylton would be returning to St Andrew Eastern to represent the People’s National Party in the next general election, Comrades from the constituency are at the National Arena for the party’s 85th annual conference showing their support for Daniella Hickling.
Hickling is a newcomer who failed to get the 50 percent plus one in the selection exercise.
“Daniella is the only aspirant and she has our support,” said one PNP delegate from the constituency.
“When we asked him to come back he said he was not coming back,” added the delegate with support from her colleagues.
Hylton had previously represented the constituency from 2011 to 2016 after he defeated the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) Dr Saphire Longmore by just more than 250 votes in his first bid at representational politics.
He failed to retain the seat in the 2016 General Election losing to the then JLP newcomer Fayval Williams. Following that defeat Hylton headed to St James Central where he was trounced by the JLP’s Heroy Clarke in 2020.
