Kishane Thompson runs 9.87 seconds for fourth in Diamond League 100m final
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Newcomer Kishane Thompson ran back-to-back sub 9.90 seconds times as he placed fourth in the men’s 100m final with 9.87 seconds (0.1m/s) at Saturday’s Wanda Diamond League finals at the PreFontaine Classic at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Thompson, who only started competing this season, ran 9.85 seconds in China two weeks ago.
Former World Champion Christian Coleman upset 2023 World Champion Noah Lyles to win with a world lead equalling 9.83 seconds.
Lyles ran 9.85 seconds, same as third placed Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya.
Yohan Blake was sixth in 10.08 seconds, while Ackeem Blake was disqualified after he false started.
National record holder Rusheen McDonald finished fifth in the men’s 400m, running 45.10 seconds as Grenada’s Kirani James ran a season’s best 44.30 seconds to win, just ahead of American Quincy Hall, the World Championships bronze medallist, who ran 44.44 seconds while Vernon Norwood was third in 44.61 seconds.
