General B shoved off stage at Boombox Fridays, Harry Toddler reportedly threatened in aftermath
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The mushrooming fallout from a fracas involving General B and members of the crowd at the weekly Boombox Freestyle Fridays event has now put the future of the event in jeopardy.
The show, which was held at Sugar Minott studio on Robert Crescent in Kingston last week, ended prematurely after an altercation between General B and one man, an action which quickly snowballed into a melee during which the artiste was allegedly ganged and beaten by several men.
In a video clip which was widely circulated over the weekend, General B joined his business partner Harry Toddler onstage at the event. He outlined to the crowd that if members of the crew have “differences,” they should not be brought to the platform for the world to see. General B then hailed the late Boom Dandimite.
It was at this point that a man in the crowd then retorted loudly: “From Dandimite dead we nuh see unuh..”
The man also hurled several expletives at the artiste.
General B then suggested to the anonymous person in the crowd that he ought to perform a lewd act with his matriarch. The crowd grumbled at this suggestion.
A dreadlocked man emerged from backstage and attempted to take the microphone from General B, who eventually went backstage. However, General B soon returned front and center and was shoved off the stage for his troubles.
Eyewitnesses said several men, who were not captured on camera, then “kicked and boxed” the veteran artiste.
General B reportedly attempted to defend himself with a broken piece of camera equipment as a gang of about 15 men descended on him. He was reportedly only saved by the brother of another veteran artiste who stepped in to quell the anger.
In the aftermath of the fracas, Harry Toddler has made it clear that he is still troubled by the events that transpired that night. He said that he did not approve of General B being shoved off the stage and he did not see when the fracas happened.
“Mi vex bro, I don’t feel good,” Harry Toddler told OBSERVER ONLINE.
The Don’t Run In artiste said that he has been receiving threatening phone calls but is yet to make a formal report to the police.
“Dem even ah call mi girl and ah threaten her,” he said.
Asked if the show will be held this Friday, Toddler responded: “When I talk to him (General B), I will know…just don’t want no more bad vibes.”
However, it appears that the bad vibes are inevitable. General B called out Harry Toddler, his friend and co-worker for decades, for not coming to his defence. The Bad Inna Dem New Clothes artiste said he is just now feeling the ill effects of being shoved off the stage and attacked.
“Bossy, the man dem shove me offa the stage and mi not even know fi explain it. The whole ah me inside dem shake up, right now, I am at the doctor’s office running some tests, so mi have to call yu back,” General B said.
The popular weekly Boombox Freestyle Fridays event started at Oneil Famous’ studio during the heights of the pandemic with a collection of artistes such as Nitty Kutchie, Harry Toddler, Layzah Matrix, Boom Dandimite, Human Beatbox, and General B coming together to just deejay and ‘build a vibes’.
After a few editions, General B and Harry Toddler stepped forward to start formalising the event, recruiting popular emcee Beekie Bailey to host and structure the acts, and later brought in camera personnel ‘Videoface’ to boost the event’s online promotion and presence.
Other artistes have begun to weigh in with their opinions with Flexx attacking Harry Toddler for not stepping in to intervene after General B was reportedly attacked.
